Craftmatic – a USA – based manufacturer is synonymous with high – end adjustable beds. This brand has been existent since 1974 and supplied both bed bases and mattresses across all the United States.
This manufacturer’s popularity, however, emanates from its long-running TV infomercials and commercials which, of course, might be biased to a higher degree.
So, this is an in-depth review of Craftmatic adjustable beds’ product lines, features, highlights, and lowlights.
Who should be interested in Craftmatic Adjustable beds?
Craftmatic says that it manufactures its beds purposely for the world’s bedrooms. This means that virtually anybody will reap a lot of benefit from their beds.
Sleepers suffering from chronic back pain
True to their design, Craftmatic beds are ideally marketed for sleepers who want a remedy for their back and joint pains.
These beds are ideally designed to curb pain and pressure points throughout your body compliments to their customizable head and foot support.
The ability to adjust the head and foot sections coupled with their massage settings make them ideal for people suffering from physical conditions such as arthritis, restless legs syndrome, and scoliosis among others.
Craftmatic adjustable beds also make a good choice for people with habitual snoring problems. Their customizable head elevation settings put you in an anti – snore position.
Thus, it may help in alleviating several health-related problems caused by snoring, and that could lead to poor life quality and drowsiness during the day. These include interruptions of breathing, impaired sleep, a strain on the heart, and light sleeping.
If you need more comfort
You could also purchase a Craftmatic adjustable bed purely for comfort. The ability to program the bed into different positions for different purposes makes these beds a great choice for everyone.
Craftmatic beds offer different sleeper profiles that make the bed comfortable for different activities including watching TV, reading, eating in bed, and even sex.
What makes Craftmatic Beds unique?
Ease of buying
Adjustable beds are still relatively new in the market. So, there’s very little information about them especially when it comes to choosing the best model for your needs.
Purchasing these beds becomes quite tricky especially when you have to order it online without trying it first. Their high cost (some go for as high as six grand!) make purchasing them even riskier.
To curb this inconvenience, Craftmatic has come up with a Shop by Phone and Save program dubbed Craftmatic Direct. This is customer service with a toll – free contact number where you get professional guidance on the exact type of adjustable bed that you need.
This makes purchasing the bed easy even if you haven’t bought any other model before. It also minimizes the inconvenience of having to ship it back or having to deal with a bed that you are not comfortable with.
But this is also a huge bummer. I’ll explain this later.
Craftmatic beds are also known for their excellent adjustability. Their latest offering, the Craftmatic Legacy, for instance, is among a few other adjustable that offer pillow tilt after the most sought, the Leggett and Platt Prodigy 2.0.
Most Craftmatic beds offer all the vital adjustment options that you might be looking for an electric adjustable bed.
They also bring along several other high – end features that are not common in entry-level adjustable beds including massage functions with varying intensity levels and a wall hugger.
Feedback from previous buyers
Reading previous buyers’ reviews and reports is a great way of getting a glimpse of how the bed performs on the ground.
Amazon, Walmart, eBay, and Newegg among other online retailers have always created a great platform for getting verified purchasers’ reviews and feedback.
Unfortunately, since 2010, this manufacturer has been selling its beds exclusively through Craftmatic Direct. Thus, you might not get reviews about most of their beds on most online retailers.
The testimonials section on this manufacturer’s website, however, has lots of reliable customer feedbacks about Craftmatic adjustable beds. Check them out here.
Most people who buy Craftmatic beds seem to be after a bed that will help alleviate pains emanating from several sources including bad backs, swollen legs, herniated discs, and acid reflux among others.
Most previous buyers seem to rate these beds highly especially regarding pain alleviation. A good number of them also seem to appreciate how thorough and helpful the sales representatives are.
As with anything else, not all buyers are happy with their purchase. For instance, a few of them point out that their adjustable beds have done virtually nothing to alleviate their trouble when sleeping.
Others also point out that the included mattresses are quite heavy. This makes changing the beddings or making the bed a little bit tiresome.
Craftmatic’s Product Lines
Craftmatic does not have sophisticated product lines with lots of models at the moment. Rather, this manufacturer only offers four adjustable beds that come as a base and mattress combo. We will discuss each of these in detail later in this article.
To suit different homeowners, each of these beds is available in all the popular bed sizes full, queen/ dual queen, and king/ dual king.
While these beds are available in the standard American sizes, Craftmatic also offers them in several X – Long and XX – Long sizes to meet the needs of different buyers;
- Twin – regular size – 39″ by 74″, X – Long size 39″ by 80″, XXL – size 39″ by 84″
- Full – regular size – 54″ by 74″, X – Long size 54″ by 80″, XX – long size 54″ by 84″
- Queen – regular size – 60″ by 80″, X – Long size 60″ by 84″
- King – regular size – 78″ by 80″, X – Long 78″ by 84″
These beds also come with compatible mattresses. You have a choice of memory foam, hybrid, and innerspring mattresses. The sales representative will also help you to choose between the different firmness levels: dual plush, luxury firm, and plush soft.
Craftmatic has edged out a competitive niche for itself especially with its heated TV commercials and infomercials. Click here to see one of their most hilarious TV commercials of the 1980s.
Its Shop by Phone and Save program and excellent customer service has put it forward as a reliable brand for millions of Americans so far. This program has scored an impressive A+ rating on BBB.
Most previous buyers who bought their beds after a recommendation from the customer care representatives report that the beds work just as expected.
There are a few complaints about this company’s mattresses though. Craftmatic beds have been rated C+ on BBB. The major complaint is that Craftmatic does not list its beds’ prices on its website.
This means that you have to call a number and give out your name and contact info to get a quote and to be able to make an order. This could raise a lot of questions including hidden high prices and poor quality of products or even both.
On the same note, and as I told you earlier on, Craftmatic does not sell its beds anywhere else. This makes getting in – depth information and, perhaps a favorable price tag, pretty much difficult.
Warranties and Return Policy
Most Craftmatic adjustable beds come with a 30 – day trial period where you can choose to keep or ship the bed back in case it does not meet your needs. They also come with a 15 – year pro-rated warranty that covers the electrical system, motors, controls, and gears.
Best Craftmatic Adjustable Bed Reviews
The Craftmatic Legacy Adjustable Bed – Best for Chronic Pain
The Craftmatic Legacy is among the most popular adjustable from this manufacturer. It incorporates a lot of cool features that make it worth going for especially for your master bedroom.
So, why should you go for the Craftmatic Legacy?
One of the most notable features of this bed is its pillow tilt function. Pillow tilt is a relatively new feature that you won’t find in most adjustable beds.
This feature allows you to fine-tune your sleeping posture by adjusting the head portion. Other than boosting your sleep and comfort, this tilt function also helps in alleviating several other issues including snoring, difficult breathing, and stuffy nose and chest.
Another feature that you are bound to love about this bed is its two programmable memory functions. For those who are new to this, memory functions allow the bed to remember your favorite sleeping positions.
This means that you don’t have to go through a lengthy setting process to get to your desired sleeping postures.
This model also features three preset memory positions; anti – snore, flat, and zero gravity. These are built – in postures that you can’t customize to fit your preferences. However, they are tweaked in a way that you are bound to use them without problems.
Are you looking for an adjustable bed with a therapeutic massage? Adjustable beds are quite pricey. So, getting a bed that offers the most for your money should always come first.
This bed’s full body massage feature might come in handy in relieving the day’s tension and stress. It might also help in soothing your sore muscles and joints to relieve pressure points.
We also appreciate that the Legacy adjustable bed comes with an illuminated wireless remote control. Its backlit design means that you won’t have to reach for the lamp to be able to use it.
Other notable features here include;
- LED safety night lamp – lights up the area around the bed, so you don’t stumble on your pets
- Has a child and pet safety lock to prevent accidents
- Offers 4 USB charging ports for your phones
The Craftmatic Model 1 – Best For Affordability
The Craftmatic Model 1 is yet another highly recommendable pick from this manufacturer. This bed is available in twin, full, queen, and king sizes.
What makes it unique from others?
A simple glance at this bed’s specs reveals that it has been designed to let you relax after a stressful day at work.
One feature that most buyers appreciate about this bed is its therapeutic effect. It allows you to tilt the upper and lower sections independently to fit your comfort needs.
There is also a full body massage function to add a layer of luxury to your sleep or rest as you watch TV or read a book.
The Model I takes your comfort a notch higher by incorporating a personal soothing heat control. This is a unique feature that will help in soothing sore muscles and aching joints to fasten the healing process.
Similar to the Craftmatic Legacy above, the Model I have a lifting capacity of 450 pounds. As such, you need to ensure that the cumulative weight of the sleepers and that of the mattress does not go past this mark.
Is it loud?
No. This bed is fitted with whisper motors that make no sound as you adjust your sleeping postures.
This bed also offers you two programmable memory positions that let you jump directly to your customized postures and three built-in preset positions.
Among other features that you won’t enjoy with this model include the anti – snore feature that Legacy offers and a backlit remote.
The Craftmatic Monaco Model Royalle – Best For Advanced Technology
If you have top dollar to spend on one of the most advanced Craftmatic adjustable beds, then the Monaco Royale has been designed with you in mind.
This bed boasts several high – end features that are common with top-level adjustable including the Prodigy 2.0 and the Reveries 7s in our other list of the best adjustable beds.
One feature that makes this bed worth every penny is the wall hugger. This is a unique type of engineering that lifts you to your favorite resting or sleeping angle while simultaneously pushing you back to ensure that the bedside table is always within reach.
This feature makes this bed a go-to model especially for people with chronic back pains who don’t want to strain so much as they reach for items on the table or the lamp stand.
The Craftmatic Monaco also differs from its inexpensive siblings with its mode of control. While the Model the Legacy and I feature a wireless remote control only, the Monaco models have a downloadable app that you can install on your Smartphone and use it to control the tilt and massage functions.
This bed also has an anti-snoring feature for the habitual snorers.
This bed’s automatic sleep timer might also take you by surprise. This is a cool feature that you program on your remote to adjust the bed from sitting position to sleeping position after a preset time.
To give you good value for your money, this base also features a gentle wake up alarm in the way of a nice massage.
Other attractive features here include
- A backlit remote controller with LED screen and a remote locator feature
- Whisper quiet motors for a cool night
- Two programmable memory positions
Craftmatic Monaco Grande – Best For Comfort
The Craftmatic Monaco Grande is not an entirely different model per se. This bed is similar to the Monaco Royalle above only that it comes with a memory foam mattress instead of the innerspring mattress that all the other models bring.
At this point, therefore, the differentiating factor is your preference between these two mattresses. Most people tend to gravitate towards memory foam due to its contouring comfort.
If you like the feeling of melting into your mattress or sleeping in a cloud, then the Monaco Grande is worth checking out.
Most people also prefer memory foam because it has minimal motion transfer than innerspring and it’s also quiet during intimacy.
The only thing, however, is that memory foam is known for trapping more heat than any other mattress. Thus, you might want to invest in some cooling sheets.
Other than the difference in mattresses, the Grande bed base is a replica of the Royalle and offers exact features including the wall hugger and the gentle wake up alarm massage.
The Craftmatic seems to offer quite a good deal with its adjustable beds. We like that among other features, each bed offers you a full body massage.
Well, I cannot compare its massage with what other sophisticated adjustable beds including the Prodigy 2.0 offers (check it out here).
The real bummer with Craftmatic beds is the fact that you cannot buy them freely online. The idea of calling a salesperson and having to give out your credentials to get the price of a bed might not be so pleasant to most of us.
Also, Craftmatic adjustable beds are way too costly for the average homeowner. But what makes it even worse is that you can’t buy any of their beds minus the mattress. If you already have a compatible mattress, then that might be an outright waste of money!
All in all, if you don’t mind the lengthy interview with the salespersons and the cost of these beds, then we believe that our reviews above will help you in choosing the best bed for your needs.
